HAVEN OF HOPE - Rescuing Abandoned Babies
Psalm 36: 7 “How precious is Thy lovingkindness, O God! And the children of men take refuge in the shadow of Thy wings.”

God has continued developing my passion and dream to care for babies born with HIV/AIDS which He set in my heart during my first trip to Uganda in 2000. Eight years later it became a reality. Through a number of devastating circumstances babies like Stephen (right) are abandoned before they are even given the chance to live. It is often believed that these babies have no hope to survive making it pointless to waste time, effort and money on them. We have loved raising Stephen in our home and growing our family.

We have learned there is a huge need for individuals and families to bring these babies into their homes to give them the love and care they desperately need to live and thrive.

There are now cases of babies born with HIV who are thriving in their 20’s because they received proper treatment and the love they needed. Unfortunately, these cases are rare. We desire for our own home to be a Haven of Hope for some of these babies; a place where refuge can be taken in the shadow of God’s wings. We yearn for them to thrive physically and to grow up knowing the love of Jesus and the love of a family dedicated to Jesus. Another hope we have is for other Ugandan families to be inspired to welcome babies into their homes as well, impacting lives one by one.

On January 1st 2010, we welcomed our second adopted baby into our family. A precious baby girl, abandoned at 2 months and HIV+. We named her Jerusalem Amy Kehn. After beginning the adoption process, we were excited to have three beautiful children in our family. But sadly within one week, her health deteriorated and we lost her. Our burden continues to be caring for more precious infants in need. Over the last three years, we have provided a home for 10 abandoned little ones for various amounts of time. A baby with these special needs does require additional finances and supplies for our family.
